This is the 2012 Annual Report of the Second National Oesophago-Gastric Cancer Audit (NOGCA). It builds on the procedures and findings of the First National Oesophago-Gastric Cancer Audit that began in October 2006. The results presented in this report are based on an organisational survey of Cancer Networks and NHS organisations (trusts in England and boards in Wales), and further analysis of data from patients diagnosed in the First NOGCA. The further analysis addresses the following issues: Patterns of referral of oesophago-gastric cancer patients. Long-term outcomes for patients receivingcurative treatment. Description

This sixth annual report of the National Head and Neck Cancer Audit includes a total of 6458 new cases (6133 from England and 325 from Wales) diagnosed between November 2009 and October 2010. Case ascertainment continues to improve each year and is now estimated at around 97 per cent for England. This is despite some networks falling below 70 per cent of expected numbers, with two Trusts not participating at all. We are sponsored by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) to manage and provide the technical infrastructure for the National Head and Neck Cancer Audit. The audit has been developed in partnership with the British Association of Head and Neck Oncologists (BAHNO) who provide the clinical direction and specialist clinical input. The Audit will allow national assessment of outcomes and provide a tool to improve the standard of care, identifying areas of good practice to teams delivering head and neck cancer care.

Description

The Health Survey for England (HSE) is part of a programme of surveys commissioned by The NHS Information Centre for health and social care (NHS IC), and carried out since 1994 by the Joint Health Surveys Unit of the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) and the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at the UCL Medical School. The study provides regular information that cannot be obtained from other sources on a range of aspects concerning the public's health and many of the factors that affect health. The series of Health Surveys for England was designed to monitor trends in the nation's health, to estimate the proportion of people in England who have specified health conditions, and to estimate the prevalence of certain risk factors and combinations of risk factors associated with these conditions. The survey is also used to monitor progress towards selected health targets. The main focus of the HSE in 2010 was respiratory health and lung function. Additional modules of questions were also included, covering contraception and sexual health, wellbeing, kidney disease and dental health.

Description

The Health Survey for England is a series of annual surveys designed to measure health and health-related behaviours in adults and children living in private households in England. The survey was commissioned originally by the Department of Health and, from April 2005 by The NHS Information Centre for health and social care. The Health Survey for England has been designed and carried out since 1994 by the Joint Health Surveys Unit of the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) and the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University College London Medical School (UCL). The 2009 Health Survey for England focused on long term health conditions and self-assessed general health. It looked at the effectiveness and use of personal care plans, which were introduced in 2006 as part of the strategy to support and empower those with long term conditions. The survey had a secondary focus on kidney disease, renal function and diabetes. As well as the focus topics, the report also provided updates on the core topics of general health, fruit and vegetable consumption, alcohol consumption and smoking.

Description

Dental Earnings and Expenses, Northern Ireland, 2008/09, Experimental Statistics, provides a detailed study of the earnings and expenses of full and part time self-employed General Dental Services dentists who were registered as holding a Dental Surgeon number to provide Health Service dentistry in Northern Ireland in 2008/09. Where possible, the results are presented for Principal Dentists (those who are owners, directors, or partners of a dental practice) and for Associcate Dentists (those who are self-employed and enter into an agreement with a Principal Dentist, that is neither partnership nor employment). This report was produced by The NHS Information Centre for health and social care, and The Dental Working Group. This is the second year that The NHS Information Centre has produced earnings and expenses data for dentists in Northern Ireland. As such, this report carries the label "Experimental Statistics". Experimental Statistics are new statistics that are undergoing evaluation. We therefore welcome comments on this report.
