Description

This release presents some preliminary results from the 2009 Adult Dental Health Survey, covering Northern Ireland, England and Wales. A series of more detailed reports are due to be published in March 2011. The 2009 Adult Dental Health Survey (ADHS) is the fifth in a series of national dental surveys that have been carried out every ten years since 1968. The 2009 survey was commissioned by the NHS Information Centre for health and social care and was conducted on behalf of the Department of Health in England, the Welsh Assembly Health Department, and the Department of Health and Personal Social Services in Northern Ireland. The survey was carried out in England, Wales and Northern Ireland only: Scotland decided not to participate in the 2009 survey. The survey consisted of a questionnaire interview with all adults aged over 16 years at all sampled households, and an oral examination of the mouth and teeth of all those adults who had at least one natural tooth. The survey was managed by the Office for National Statistics working in consortium with the National Centre for Social Research, the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency, and dental experts from the Universities of Birmingham, Cardiff, Dundee, Newcastle, and University College London. The sample size for the survey was 13,400 households (1,150 in each English Strategic Health Authority and Wales, and 750 households in Northern Ireland). Data collection for the survey took place between October 2009 and April 2010, and the final household interview response rate was 60 per cent. A total of 11,380 individuals were interviewed, and 6,469 dentate adults were examined, making this the largest ever epidemiological survey of adult dental health in the United Kingdom.

Description

The Health Survey for England is a series of annual surveys designed to measure health and health-related behaviours in adults and children living in private households in England. The survey was commissioned originally by the Department of Health and, from April 2005 by The NHS Information Centre for health and social care. The Health Survey for England has been designed and carried out since 1994 by the Joint Health Surveys Unit of the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) and the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University College London (UCL)Medical School. The trend tables focus upon key changes in core topics and measurements. These include estimates of the number, as well as the proportion, of people with a range of health related problems and lifestyle behaviours.

Description

The 2010 Infant Feeding Survey is the eighth in a series of national surveys. These surveys have been conducted every five years since 1975, on behalf of the four Health Departments in the United Kingdom. This latest survey has been commissioned by the NHS Information Centre for Health and Social Care (NHS IC) and is being conducted by IFF Research. The main aim of the survey is to provide estimates of the incidence, prevalence and duration of breastfeeding and other feeding practices adopted by mothers from the birth of their baby up to around ten months. The survey also collects information about the smoking and drinking behaviour of mothers before, during and after pregnancy. The survey consists of a longitudinal design (similar to previous surveys in this series) with data being collected in three stages. The first stage is collected when the babies are approximately 6-10 weeks old, the second when they are 4-6 months old and the third when they are 8-10 months old. The results presented in this Early Results publication are based on Stage 1 of the survey only and cover two key topics; the initial incidence of breastfeeding and smoking during pregnancy. The final stage of the survey is currently underway and a full report is expected to be published by the NHS IC in Summer 2012.

Description

NHS IT survey was circulated to NHS organisations between September and November 2011. The survey was designed to collect high level data about systems and suppliers used within the NHS. Publishing this data in a transparent way aims to help: - inform national strategic planning in relation to management of key suppliers - inform local and regional strategy and decisions (e.g. to provide organisations with a good understanding of the wider NHS IT estate and to identify other organisations with similar estates/system dependencies to work together on issues of common interest) - support the development of widely used systems in the NHS; - enable information intermediaries to provide different insights to support the NHS as it continues to develop its capacity to exchange and provide information. When reviewing the spreadsheet please bear in mind that this is simply a consolidated report of the raw data received so far. Consequently, no data cleansing has been undertaken and not all of the fields have been completed by all respondents.

The indicator will be measured every second year by a new, bespoke, centrally administered survey of local third sector organisations. The survey will also include contextual questions covering, for example, the quality of funding relationships and partnership working between the third sector and local statutory bodies. This will give local authorities more information to understand what may be driving their performance against the headline indicator.

Description

Migrants can be considered as having made positive steps towards resettlement or integration when they are empowered to gain employment, contribute to the local and national economy and to make other positive contributions to their communities. Therefore, this indicator seeks to measure one key aspect of integration by identifying the proportion of non-English speaking third country nationals in a Local Authority area able to access and progress in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses, as measured by course waiting lists and attainment levels.
