Description

A Super Output Area (SOA) is a geographical area designed for the collection and publication of small area statistics. SOAs give an improved basis for comparison throughout the country because the units are more similar in size of population than, for example, electoral wards. There are 333 SOAs in Warwickshire with a population of between 1,000 - 2,000 people.

Description

This lists current designations of sensitive areas identified under the urban waste water treatment directive across the UK. Environmental waters are designated as sensitive areas where they are in need of protection through the provision of tertiary treatment at sewage treatment plants whose discharges adversely impact the waters. There are various types of sensitive areas and their type will influence the form of tertiary treatment provided: for example bathing and shellfish waters sensitive areas will be protected by UV treatment, and waters adversely affected by nutrients in discharges will receive phosphorus and/or nitrogen reduction.

Description

Approximately half the 12.7 billion cubic metres of water abstracted in 2006-07 in England and Wales was for public water supply, with the remainder largely accounted for in cooling uses by the electricity generation sector and in the agricultural sector. Why is this important –predictions of more changeable weather systems in the future will put pressure on our water supply. More efficient and sustainable ways of using water in order to have a secure water supply are needed.
