Description

The Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) allows practices to exception-report (exclude) specific patients from data collected to calculate achievement scores. Patients can be exception-reported from individual indicators for various reasons, for example if they are newly diagnosed or newly registered with a practice, if they do not attend appointments or where the treatment is judged to be inappropriate by the GP (such as medication cannot be prescribed due to side-effects). The General Medical Services contract sets out the criteria which allow practices to participate in QOF but not to be penalised where exception reporting occurs. Patient exception reporting applies to QOF indicators where the level of achievement is determined by the percentage of patients receiving the designated level of care. The information presented here refers to exception reporting for indicators with the 'clinical domain' of the QOF, and two indicator sets in the 'additional services domain' (cervical screening and contraceptive services). For background information on QOF exception reporting, and for notes on the way exception reporting rates are calculated, see the detailed notes in the statistical bulletin in QOF exception reporting.

Description

Based upon payments to staff between April and June 2012 we present estimates of annual basic pay and total earnings for NHS staff groups (excluding GPs and high street dentists). We've taken pay data from all NHS organisations using the Electronic Staff Record (ESR) during the period. The methodology used to produce these estimates is available above. This is the 22nd quarter of earnings estimates derived from the ESR data warehouse and is the last publication in the current series using the existing methodology. This publication also introduces tables marked provisional and experimental based on the proposed new methodology (see Annex A, B and C in the bulletin). We have also published the response to the public consultation that closed on 29 June 2012. Read the response to consultation on NHS Staff Earnings publication As expected with provisional data, some figures may be revised prior to the next publication as issues are uncovered and resolved, therefore the statistics using the existing methodology are the definitive earnings figures for this publication. This will allow those who depend on the existing figures a little longer to prepare for the new methodology whilst providing the existing figures for immediate use. Part of the rationale is that we do not see the end of the consultation exercise as the end of the development of our publication and this structure provides users of these statistics further chance to enter into dialogue. The aim is for the December publication of NHS Staff Earnings estimates to be solely based on the new methodology and to include an historic timeseries. All figures stated in this publication are based on the existing methodology.

Description

This fifth annual report on NHS adult specialist mental health services in England and the people who use them covers five years with the most recent information for 2010/11. It covers hospital care and services delivered in the community. This year, for the first time, data from a small number of NHS funded independent sector providers of specialist mental health services are included and almost all the patients in these services spent time in hospital. The MHMDS is the data source which will be used for Payment by Results (PbR) and is an essential source of information for all those interested in planning or commissioning services or monitoring what is delivered. It is also being used by researchers.

This has been collected since 1988/89 through the KT31 return, which includes services provided by: Trusts in NHS clinics and as domiciliary visits Brook Advisory Centres Information on NHS community contraceptive clinics excludes services provided in out-patient clinics and those provided by General Practitioners. However, limited data is presented for out-patient clinics sourced from The NHS Information Centre's Hospital Episode Statistics (HES), prescription data from the Prescription Services Division (PSD) and survey data from ‘Contraception and Sexual Health 2008/09', a report published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on behalf of the NHS Information Centre.

Description

This is the Third Annual Report of the National Oesophago-Gastric Cancer Audit. The Audit began in October 2006 with the aim of assessing the quality of care received by patients with oesophago-gastric (O-G) cancer in England and Wales. The Audit focused on patients diagnosed between 1 October 2007 and 30 June 2009, and collected information on both the process of care and patient outcomes. In this report, we describe: the diagnosis, the staging, and treatment planning process, curative treatments and their short-term outcomes, palliative oncological treatment and endoscopic / radiological palliative therapies and their short-term outcomes. Results are presented at both a national level and by Cancer Network. We also present outcome data after curative surgery for individual NHS trusts.

Description

This is the Second Annual Report of the National Oesophago- Gastric Cancer Audit, produced as part of the National Clinical Audit Support Programme. The principal activity of the Audit since the First Annual Report has been the prospective collection of data on patients diagnosed with O-G cancer in England and Wales. This process is still ongoing. In this report, we describe: the process of diagnosis, staging and treatment planning for patients diagnosed between 1 October 2007 and 31 March 2009, the treatments received by patients diagnosed between 1 October 2007 and 30 September 2008, together with their short-term outcomes of care. Longer-term outcomes of care will be the focus of the Third Annual Report when the collection of data will have finished.

Description

27 January 2012 Note An error affecting 2 rows in each of Table 3A and 3B within the NCMP England, 2010/11 Online Tables excel workbook have been identified. The errors affect figures for Central Bedfordshire Unitary Authority (row 216 in each table) and Cornwall Unitary Authority (row 385 in each table). The errors do not affect England level figures or data shown for any other breakdowns within other tables. The pdf file NCMP England, 2010/11 Report is unaffected. The NCMP England, 2010/11 Online Tables excel workbook has been re-issued with a corrected version of Tables 3A and 3B. These tables also have revised footnotes. Please see the errata note for further information. The NHS IC apologises for any inconvenience this may have caused. Summary This report summarises the key findings from the Government's National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) for England, 2010/11 school year. The report provides high-level analysis of the prevalence of ‘underweight', ‘healthy weight', ‘overweight', ‘obese' and 'overweight and obese combined' children, in Reception (aged 4–5 years) and Year 6 (aged 10–11 years), measured in state schools in England in the school year 2010/11. The National Obesity Observatory (NOO) will produce additional analysis of 2010/11 NCMP data (expected to be published in Spring 2012). The anonymised national dataset will also be made available to Public Health Observatories (PHOs) to allow regional and local analysis of the data. In addition, NOO have included 2010/11 NCMP data (as well as data from previous years) in an e-Atlas – an interactive mapping tool that enables the user to compare a range of indicators, examine correlations and make regional and national comparisons. See 'Look up results for your area' on the right hand side.

Description

August 2012 note: Subsequent to publishing this report on 30 November 2010, a number of changes were identified as being needed. These were mainly due to incorrect data submissions. For full details please see the Errata note document above. Please note: Issues with some newly implemented Child Health Information Systems (CHISs) over recent years have affected COVER data quality. Although some Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) reported data quality issues in 2009-10, overall fewer issues have been identified. Some caution should, however, be exercised when comparing coverage figures over time as apparent trends could reflect changes in the quality of data reported as well as real changes in vaccination coverage. While this issue will be more apparent at a local level, it will also have an impact on the national figures. The information in this bulletin, about immunisation statistics in England, comes from: The Health Protection Agency (HPA) Centre for Infections (CfI) for information on childhood immunisation coverage at ages 1, 2 and 5 collected through the Cover of Vaccination Evaluated Rapidly (COVER) data collection for PCTs The NHS Information Centre (The NHS IC) for information about the BCG programme and reinforcing doses on the KC50 return from known providers of immunisation services. The Department of Health for information on persons aged 65 and over immunised against influenza for all PCTs (in conjunction with Health Protection Agency).
